NPB Modules
Niagara Networks’ Modular Chassis were designed to support a wide variety of field-installable network I/O modules. These modules support a wide range of physical connectivity options as well as value-added functions like Passive Bypass and Passive TAP. Our pre-sales support team can help you decide which modules are best suited to your specific needs.
Octal 1/10Gb SFP Network I/O Module IM13120
The IM13120 provides support for 8 1Gb or 10Gb SFP transceivers. This module is intended to provide general network connectivity, connections to network tools such as security appliances or as an aggregation point for external TAP points.
Quad 1/10Gb Fiber TAP Module IM13121
The IM13121 Fiber TAP module provides 4 TAP segments, which can operate at 1Gb/s or 10Gb/s speeds. Each segment incorporates passive TAP optics that split the optical signals passing across a pair of LC fiber connectors and forwards a portion of the signal to the Niagara Packet Broker.
These modules are extremely useful for monitoring bi-directional traffic between servers and switches, routers and switches or any other pair of network devices. The IM13121 provides monitoring for 4 such links.
Because the tapping function is passive, this module is extremely reliable. Even a complete power failure to the Niagara Packet Broker will not interrupt the flow of traffic between links in a segment.
Two Segment 10Gb Fiber Bypass Module IM13122
Bypass modules provide high availability and resiliency to Firewall, IPS, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), DPI, and SSL inline appliances. These appliances located in a critical capture point in the network, typically at the core or the aggregation.
A bypass segment consists of two network ports connected to the core switches/routers and two appliances ports connected to the firewall, IPS, DLP, DPI or SSL appliance.
The IM13122 provides two “Bypass Segments” in which network traffic to be examined is flowing. If the appliance fails in any way, an optical switch connects both network ports, “bypassing” the failed appliance and maintains high availability of the network. The optical switch operates at millisecond speed and does not rely on system power. Configurable high-frequency heartbeat packets sent across the appliance ports detect appliance failures. When the specified number of heartbeats fails to traverse the appliance, the Niagara Packet Broker “Actively” bypasses the appliance, forcing the switching fabric to bridge Ethernet frames between the network ports.
The IM13122 provides two bypass segments for SR or LR fiber (Specify when ordering) and appliance ports support SFP or SFP+ modules (Order separately)
100Gb Network I/O Module IM13126
The IM13126 Network I/O module provides 100Gb network connectivity for Niagara Modular Packet Brokers via a QSFP28 transceiver (available separately). This module can be used to connect to core network switches and routers or to connect to 100Gb-capable security tools. When coupled with a Niagara 2845 or Niagara 2847 modular chassis, the IM13216 enables non-blocking, wire-rate filtering, load balancing and other core NPB functionalities. 100Gb modules can be installed at any time, facilitating network flexibility and expandability.
100Gb Fiber Bypass Module IM13127
Like the IM13122, 10Gb Bypass module, the IM13127 protects network traffic from equipment failures. The IM13127 Bypass module provides two 100Gb fiber ports which can be connected to a switch or router, through which network traffic to be examined is flowing. Should power fail or if any other type of failure is detected, the IM13127’s optical switch will move to Bypass mode, connecting the two network ports and preventing the loss of any data.
100Gb Fiber Bypass Module with Tool ports IM13187
The IM13187 one-segment Bypass module provides bypass protection at 100Gb/s line rate. The IM13187 provides passive network bypass and also provides two 100Gb QSFP ports to support a high-speed network tool. The IM13187 is an efficient solution to the problem of providing reliable, high-speed connectivity between the Network Packet Broker, network elements and Firewall, IPS, Data Loss Prevention (DLP), DPI, and SSL inline appliances, The IM13187 is not field installable, but is included in the Niagara 2847-BP4S chassis and is a factory option on the Niagara 2845 chassis.
Quad 40Gb QSFP+ Network I/O Module IM13123
The IM13123 Network I/O module provides four ports of 40Gb network connectivity for Niagara Modular Packet Brokers via QSFP+ transceivers (available separately). This module can be used to connect to core network switches and routers or to connect to 40Gb-capable security tools. When coupled with a Niagara 2845 or Niagara 2847 modular chassis, the IM13123 enables non-blocking, wire-rate filtering, load balancing and other core NPB functionalities. 40Gb modules can be installed at any time, facilitating network flexibility and expandability.
Dual 40Gb Fiber TAP Module IM13124
The IM13124 Fiber TAP module provides 2 TAP segments, each operating at 40Gb speed. Each segment incorporates passive TAP optics that split the optical signals passing across a pair of fiber connectors and forwards a portion of the signal to the Niagara Packet Broker.
These modules are extremely useful for monitoring bi-directional traffic between servers and switches, routers and switches or any other pair of network devices. The IM13124 provides monitoring for 2 such links.
Because the tapping function is passive, this module is extremely reliable. Even a complete power failure to the Niagara Packet Broker will not interrupt the flow of traffic between links in a segment.
Octal 1Gb SFP Copper TAP Module with Bypass IM13115
The IM13115 is an “active” TAP module with built-in Bypass protection. This module provides 4 pairs of 1000base-T ports, which are used to tap into network traffic traversing copper Gigabit Ethernet links. The TAP is considered “active” because traffic entering either port is routed through the switch fabric before being forwarded to its partner port. Bypass protection connects each pair of TAP ports directly to the partner port in the event of a power or device failure. The IM13115 is a highly reliable means of intercepting Gigabit traffic from multiple sources. iM13115 ports can also be used for general-purpose Gigabit Ethernet I/O for connecting network tools or other purposes.
1Gb SFP Copper Bypass Module with Tool ports IM13207
The IM13207 provides 24 1000base-T network ports for Niagara Modular NPBs. This module occupies 2 module bays and is an efficient means of providing connectivity for multiple data collection points. Network ports on the IM13207 can be configured for TAP aggregation, tool connectivity or for general network connectivity.
